La première moto volante pour demain ?

La premiere moto volante verra le jour courant 2009 aux pays bas. Esperons que le projet sera cette fois réussi (on connait tous l'histoire de la voiture volonte)

Trois roues, un cockpit monoplace caréné, un moteur de 210 ch, une voilure tournante : voilà le Pal-V, curieux engin volant développé aux Pays-Bas par Pal-V Europe, qui devrait débuter ses essais en vol fin 2009. Pour sa partie terrestre, le Pal-V copie (sous licence) le Carver One de Carver Engineering (une autre société néerlandaise) : un tricycle rapide (185 km/h) et léger (500 kg à vide) dont l’inclinaison en virage est assurée par un système hydraulique breveté. La suite, elle, est originale. Le Pal-V abrite en effet un rotor et une hélice propulsive, déployés en 5 min.

A la différence d’un hélicoptère, et selon le principe de l’autogire, le rotor n’est pas motorisé : il tourne grâce au vent relatif dû à l’avancement, fournissant ainsi la portance nécessaire. Simple à piloter, rapide (185 km/h), sûr et endurant (3 heures et demie ou 450 km de vol), l’autogire se pose sur quelques mètres. Mais il lui faut en revanche 180 m pour décoller, ce qui exige un terrain préparé comme pour un ULM (catégorie dans laquelle entrerait le Pal-V). Si les essais sont concluants, la production démarrera en 2012. Le prix n’est pas encore fixé.

Like a helicopter, it has a Very Short Take Off and Vertical Landing (VSTOVL) capability making it possible to land practically anywhere. It can be driven to the nearest airfield or helipad and, if not using controlled airspace, can take off without filing a flight plan. The gyroplane technology means that it can be steered and landed safely even if the engine fails because the rotor keeps autorotating. Of course the PAL-V has to descent and land immediately in this case, but as it can land on a proverbial “postage stamp”, in most cases, this will not cause any problem. Lift is generated by the rotor and the forward speed needed for autorotation is produced by the foldable pusher propeller. It is much quieter than a helicopter due to the slower rotation of the main rotor. A license to fly the PAL-V One is easier to obtain than for a helicopter. In the United States and soon in Europe the infrastructure is in place for 'digital freeways' that provide easy and safe corridors using GPS technology to aid regulation and prevent collisions for low flying vehicles. What makes the PAL-V One attractive is the convenience of fully integrated door to door transportation, providing smooth transition from road to air without having to change vehicle.
